5 Guaranteed American Rights (That You Might Not Know You Have)
Many people assume that laws are written down in stone tablets. Actually, that is mixing religion and politics. Most laws are based on precedent. In The United States, The Constitution guarantees Americans rights as generalized by The Bill of Rights to mean the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. As an American, you might not know that you have the right to protect your life. That is a problem in dealing with occasionally when a homeowner shoots and kills an intruder in his house.Additional information can be found at http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/09/13/1016527/-Outsourcers-Bill-of-Rights-to-come-to-a-vote-on-Thursday. However, one has the right to protect one’s life. An intruder is obviously seeking to hurt the life of the person who lives in the house.
An American has the right of liberty. Loosely interpreted that means that an American can travel, go anywhere he wants. An American can’t be put behind bars or jailed on the arbitrary desires of another American. Those violations of liberty as guaranteed by The Bill of Rights can bring lawsuits against the violators. Liberty is a very important right protected by the Bill of Rights and due every American. That means that a police officer needs to show just cause to arrest an individual. That means that using an American to act against his desires by threatening his liberty is violating his rights as an American citizen.
Every American is guaranteed the right to pursue his own happiness. An American is free to open a business, to speak his mind in public, to protect his property, to go to the church of his choice, to raise his children according to his beliefs and whatever else one considers pursuing one’s happiness. These rights as Americans were not dictated by the written laws of The Magna Carta but were given to Americans by the rights and not laws of The Constitution of The United States of America. As an American, you may not know that you have the right to protect your personal integrity if attacked by another person who claims that his rights supercede yours. That is a fallacy that some Americans fall victim to because they assume that power by mass intimidation is protected as American rights.
